About the Role

As our Machine Shepherd, you'll be the ultimate equipment guru, responsible for keeping every machine up and running. You will design and fabricate custom tooling (from CNC fixtures to injection-mold dies) from scratch and raw ingenuity if necessary. You will diagnose and repair any mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or electronic issue, and own the safety-and-training program that certifies our members to use the equipment confidently and responsibly through different skill levels. You should be able to work on any machine ever made at any point ever by anyone, from watches to excavation equipment to zero-gravity assemblies and ancient alien artifacts.

Machine Maintenance & Repair

• Service and repair all equipment: CNC routers/lathes, laser cutters, 3D printers, injection-molding presses, welders, presses, robots, server hardware, legacy machines, etc
• Triage, diagnose, and write up jobs; perform electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical diagnostics
• Replace parts, retrofit or re-engineer components as needed
• Complete controller gut and swap, refurbish crashed machines
• Evaluate used machines/equipment before acquisition, and before/after renting out to offsite members

Tooling & Fixture Design

• Create CAM programs and G-code for custom CNC fixtures, jigs, and tooling
• Design injection-mold tooling (mold base layouts, gating, cooling channels) using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD/CAM tools
• Write SOPs for manufacturing processes and equipment operation

Safety & Training Program Leadership

• Write and maintain all SOPs
• Own comprehensive safety program including safety checklists and lockout/tagout procedures
• Train and certify members on safe machine operation across different skill levels
• Conduct onboarding sessions, refresher courses, and hands-on workshops
• Audit operator competency and enforce safety policies and PPE requirements

Member Support & Consultation

• Advise startups on optimal equipment selection and workflow integration for their projects
• Provide rapid "break-fix" support during critical production runs and prototyping phases
• Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate new machinery or automation cells
• Develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules, maintain detailed logs of repairs and upgrades

What We're Looking For

• Ability to work on any machine ever made - from watches to excavation equipment to zero gravity assemblies
• Expert-level experience in electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical systems, and the ability to become a working expert with anything unfamiliar in a couple of weeks
• Proficiency with CAD/CAM tools (SolidWorks or equivalent) and G-code programming
• Experience with injection molding tooling design and manufacturing processes
• Strong leadership skills for developing and implementing safety training programs, you can manage a 5-10 person team of whatever you do
• Entrepreneurial mindset with experience supporting startups and rapid prototyping
• Software programming or systems engineering/bullshit experience is a bigly plus
• AI tool usage is a bigly plus
• Available for 25/8/366 on-call responsibilities as a founding team member
